Sorry to be so late with this, but some time ago I came across this in
Durant's Story of Civilization Vol 1: Our Oriental Heritage page 750 and
thought immediately of TT, Glory, Invitation, and La Veneziana in
particular. Akiko may find this interesting. The story concerns a famous
Chinese artist, "When Wu had lived long enough, says a pretty tale, he
painted a vast landscape, stepped into the mouth of a cave pictured in it,
and was never seen again."
