A couple of idle thoughts before leaving TT-6 and moving on.
1. Henry EMERY Person -- that middle name may suggest death. NB the M-R as
in MORTAL and Russian Smert' (death) and Myortvyi (dead.) This echo occurs
again in Emerald, nb the green statuette. Throughout VNs'oeuvre green,
emerald, and death are linked with death. This NOT to say "green" is always
linked with death but sometimes is. Note the subsequent "reptile-green
ink"--nasty but not lethal.
2. NB the "handwringing" a few lines down. Although immediately linked to
HP's guilty remorse, it neatly segues into the Boston Strangler and HP's
hands.
