EDNOTE. Eric Naiman sends a link to a "rather opinionated" piece on the
1895 Nagant 7.62mm. revolver which opens by quoting a poem from VN to
Vera Slonim before their
marriage:

Stacy Schiff quotes this same poem in her biography, Vera (Mrs. Vladimir
Nabokov) (New York: Random House, 1999), with regard to the fact that at
the time Nabokov met Vera Slonim she carried a pistol and claimed to be
a crack shot (pp. 55-56).
