Like Don himself humorously observed for a similar theme: "Scholarship
marches on..." (It seems that Walter Miale´s recognition of "Preparation H"
followed by the word "piles" in the poem "Pale Fire" gains more extraneous
support.)
Since I speak no Russian both "perdet" and "bzdet" are mainly visual
expressions, like hyeroglyphs, so I find no sound as an accompaniment. But
there are no smells, either. In Portuguese we have a verb and a word for
"fart" that comes close to the "perdet/perdomai" root. It is "peido",
"peidar" and it apparently belongs to the "talkies" era.
Mary Bellino, according to the Dictionary in which I checked "peido", the
Portuguese ending "péia" ( as in "onomatopéia" ) is linked to "poía" in
Greek ( a creative act, a sonorous production, as we find in "poetry" and
in"poiesis"). Only the lexical order approached "péia" and "peido", but the
example given was "onomatopéia" - so I began to wonder if there is any kind
of link for this anal-inspired creativity.
