Re: jewish "Bodkin" tradition?

It sounds like the bodkin¹s role in the shtetl underworld has
metamorphosized with very little change into the standup routines on Fox¹s
Comedy Central in the U.S.
There is often an element of risk when bright youngsters decide to
incorporate ancient traditional practices into their modern-day wedding
services. We do not know nearly as much as we think we do about the ³real²
way these old ethnic celebratory practices were carried out, even though we
may be able to find the possibly somewhat purified written record that a
village cleric or monastic historian may have left behind.
