Victor/Carolyn: that particular transcription (X -> KS) depends on
certain
phonetic assumptions: how the X in Xavier sounds to Slavic ears, and how
best to represent that sound using the available characters.
Unfortunately,
we don't know too much about Zemblan phonetics? We do know that the
Iberian
X has a broad range of 'legitimately attested' sounds ranging from Z to
KS
to my favourite soft CH (BASQUE!). Every scouser has known this since
Basque
payer Xavi Alonso joined Liverpool Football Club. As I posted years ago,
the
Catholic school in Liverpool is still pronounced St Francis EXavier!
(JM: Brits have also learned to pronounce the Chelsea manager's name,
Jose
Mourinho, as befits the Special One from Portugal! Calling him YOZAY is
a
major solecism.)
