Theosophy is alive and well enough and living in Pasadena
Dear Suellen,
I too have detected the occasional Nabokovian reference to Theosophy and Mme Blavatsky (what a perfect name for the old charlatan!) but have never been able to make it add up to much. Also interesting: Theosopy continues and their headquarters in Pasadena - - just about a mile from where I am at this very moment - - is the resting place of some of the old fraud's ashes. Maybe I should request an audience one of these days (I could try her in Russian - - Dorogaya Helena Petrovna, Nu chto novogo von tam ...)?

p.s. Perhaps she would prefer to be addressed as Vysoko-uvazhaemaya?
