I want add to that EDNOTE commentary above that possible
similiarity between Gradus and Phileas Fogg it is not a 'big
discovery' in any case I think - this is only an association, and if
there is any real plot in it I think that it is rather a joke not much
seriuos (it is my opinion)

Tomasz -- this is a wonderful observation! Indeed, there are many many parallels (and meridians) in common between not only Gradus and Fogg but a number of other itineraries of other characters. Fogg is mentioned directly in Ada; Van's train routes are Julesvernian; travel of Humbert and Lolita appear to parody captain grant's children travel, etc
I confess that I have now been working (offlist) for some time on the parallels between VN and Jules Verne, which are many and important. I discussed it with some Nabokovians, again offlist. I am not ready to publish yet but probably will submit a paper to The Nabokovian later this year.
The issue is almost unexplored -- in my opinion, first of all because the Anglophone world hardly knows true Jules Verne -- old English translations have been very inadequate...
