Dear J.F

Several years ago I congratulated the editors of Time Magazine because they
printed that " iron was manufactured in the stars" and I tried to point out
to them that "manufactured" suggested some kind of human intervention, ergo,
they were proving extra-telluric life existed in the universe.
As an answer I got their brief explanation that the word "manufacture" no
longer applied to "fabricated by hand", it had passed into common usage as
synonimous of "produced" - and that was that.
Do you really think VN had been thinking of sidereal sideros as joining both
meanings of iron and star in the crossed roads of cutting scissors?

The image of Rhyme as Echo's fey daughter is very interesting, I think one
may interpret "fey" in anyway one feels like it. Such as feverish Lucette
looking "fey", captured by an otherwordly dimension peculiar to VN's common
description of such states ( as in "Pnin"). Rhyme is almost an "echo", but
in all good rhyme it never is.
