JA re: of course all fiction is ID, but my point was that Nabokov build's the sense of the author's authority into his books, which makes for a good way to parody literary convnetions, and is used to reveal His divine purpose. In the Real Life Of Sebastion Knight, Sebastian is found lying on the floor after having completed writing one of his novels by a friend; he explains he's taking a sabbath's rest after having made a world.
