This paperback cover scan is my humble VN birthday offering.
I think this 1963 Penguin edition may be somewhat scarce by now, and
what makes it special is that the cover illustration is credited to
Dmitri Nabokov--not known at what age he drew it. In the annals of
Penguin Books, where series numbers were often waggishly assigned, this
edition is memorable for being Penguin Main Series No. 1984.
This scan was a byproduct of an article and bibliography I did a few
years back for the Penguin Collectors Society (about 600 readers), which
I promised at the time to redistribute to Nabokovians, then never got
around to it. I’ve taken my sweet time joining this listserv after years
of enjoying the Zembla Web site.
