Dear Friends,
As I write this message, the sky -- framed in my dining-room window -- is shifting with surprising rapidity from a faint pinkening along the black horizon to tints of rose, lavender, and pale blue lighting up the familiar scene of trees and houses across the street. It looks as if VN's birthday will be a freshly lovely day.
It looks as if it will be a beautiful day on NABOKV-L, too. Already there is the wonderful gift of a new issue of the Nabokov Online Journal, just released this morning in honor of the occasion. And, best of all, the exciting news that Dmitri Nabokov has decided to publish The Original of Laura.
I look forward to sharing tidbits and tributes with you throughout the day. Meanwhile, Happy Birthday, VN!
